Pug Puppy's Meal
After a Pug puppy has been fully weaned from his mother until about three months' old, he needs to be fed four times a day. In the morning and evening, you may want to offer kibble (dog meat) soaked in hot water or broth, to which you have added some canned meat-based food or fresh raw meat cut into small chunks. At noon and bedtime, you can feed him a bit of kibble or whole-grain cereal moistened with milk (moistening, by the way, makes the food easier to digest, since dogs don’t typically chew their food).
From three to six months, increase the portion size and offer just three meals, one milk and two meat. At six months, two meals are enough; at one year, a single meal can be given, supplemented with a few dry biscuits in the morning and evening. During the colder months, especially if your Pug is active, you might want to mix in some wheat germ oil or corn oil or bacon drippings with the meal to add extra calories. Make sure to keep a bowl of cool, fresh water on hand always to help your Pug regulate his body temperature and to aid in digestion.
From one year on, you may continue feeding your mature Pug a single meal (in the evening, maybe, when you have your supper), or you may prefer to divide this meal in two, offering half in the morning and the other half at night. Keep in mind that while your Pug puppy require foods in small chunks, or nuggets, older Pug can handle large pieces of food at mealtime.
With so many good dog-food products on the market today, there is something for your Pug. You may want to serve dry food “as is” or mix it with warm water or broth. Maybe you’ll choose to combine dry food with fresh or canned preparations. Some canned foods contain all meat, but hey are not complete; others are mixtures of meat and grains, which have been fortified with additional nutrients to make them more complete and balanced. There are also many packaged foods that can be served alone or as supplements.
Be certain to read the labels carefully before your make your dog-food purchases. Most reputable pet-food manufacturers list the ingredients and the nutritional content right on the can or package. Instructions are in general included so that your will know how much to feed your dog to keep him thriving and in tip condition. A varied, well-balanced diet that supplies the proper amounts of protein, carbohydrate, fat vitamins, minerals, and water is important to keep your Pug puppy healthy and to guarantee his normal development.
In addition, adjustments to the diet can be made, under your vet’s supervision, according to your Pug puppy, his rate growth, his activity level, and so on. Liquid or power vitamin and mineral supplements, or those in tablet form, are available and can be given if you need to feel certain that diet is balanced.
